15 Days Serengeti and Zanzibar Family Holiday

15 Days Serengeti and Zanzibar Family Holiday

This Adventure family safari holiday offers a superb experience of Tanzania’s very best game viewing areas. The Northern Parks of Tanzania, offer incredible wildlife, diverse and spectacular landscapes as well as some cultural experiences in the traditional homelands of the Maasai people. As a family travelling together, this privately driven and guided overland 4×4 safari is the perfect way to experience Tanzania, with the extra space, privacy and flexibility to travel at your own pace each day when on safari.

This area of Tanzania also offers the best time of year climatically and for game viewing during the school holiday seasons of August, October Half term and Christmas and New Year. The best parks to explore at this time of year are the Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and of course the Serengeti National Park.

We recommend a mix of lodges and authentic luxury tented camps that cater well to families. Furthermore we look to use camps with specially designed safari tents that can sleep up to four, offering a greater feeling of security for families. Following your safari, head to the island of Zanzibar where you can relax at a beach hotel or lodge or resort of your choice. There are a handful of great smaller hotels for families in Zanzibar and we are able to recommend these to fit your budget and requirements.

Day 1: Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania. After clearing customs, look for your Kuwa Huru Adventure Tanzania Driver. He will be waiting for you, holding a sign with your name on it. Your driver will transfer you to A great choice for Families in Arusha,  Ahadi Lodge, which offers adjoining rooms which are ideal for families. Overnight Arusha. Breakfast and dinner included.

Your guide will collect you after breakfast in your own 4×4 open roof top vehicle. Head out to the Tarangire National Park, famous for the large numbers of elephants it attracts during the dry season. Tarangire River, which never dries up. Being the only source of water during the dry season, it draws hundreds of animals to the park, making for a wildlife and bird viewing spectacular. The landscape is varied, with grassy savannah plains, swamps, hills and spectacular baobabs. Enjoy a full day in the park with game viewing, Spend the day exploring the park. We recommend Ndovu Tented Camp as a great option for family accommodation in Tarangire as they offer great family tents. Overnight  Tarangire. All meals & game activities included.

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park

This morning drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Set against the steep escarpment of the Rift Valley, you’ll find Lake Manyara National Park with its evergreen groundwater forest and variety of ecosystems including acacia woodland, grassy plains, a swampy fan delta, and – of course – the expansive lake. This diversity attracts a wide variety of mammal, bird, and wildlife species. Manyara is also home to rare tree climbing lions. The park offers excellent game viewing with buffalo, impala, giraffe, bushbuck, waterbuck, hippos, and lots of elephants roam near the lake. Also look out for blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, and the very active Olive baboon troops.

A good idea is to head to your accommodation after lunchtime to arrive mid-afternoon, allowing time to relax around the lodge and have a break from the safari vehicle. We highly recommend the family rooms at Endoro Lodge as a great family option in Lake Manyara.  Overnight Lake Manyara National Park. All meals and game activities included.

Day 5: The Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the natural wonders of Africa and is home to some incredible wildlife, Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for game driving and exploration. The crater is 600m deep, 16 km across and 265 sq.km in area.

Flamingo, among other bird species, can often be seen feeding at Makat Soda Lake as well. Ngorongoro permits are valid for a maximum of 6 hours in the crater floor, which is enough time to traverse the Crater floor and enjoy a picnic lunch. We recommend Ngorongoro Farmhouse as a great option for families in Ngorongoro. Overnight Ngorongoro. All meals & game drive included.
