4 Days Big Five Serengeti Safari

The Big 5 animals are the undisputed rulers of African wildlife. These majestic creatures are the most feared and lethal, which is why they are a must-see for anyone visiting Tanzania. The African Lion, African Leopard, African Elephant, Cape buffalo, and Rhinoceros make up the Big 5, a name they earned due to their difficulty to hunt and their deadly nature.
Fortunately, hunting regulations have drastically reduced over the years, making it easier for visitors to spot these magnificent animals in their natural habitats. Many safaris are dedicated to finding the Big 5, so tourists need not worry about missing out on this unforgettable experience. If you’re planning a trip to Tanzania, keep your eyes peeled for these remarkable beasts
Day 1: Arusha – Ngorongoro Crater.
Tomorrow morning, you will embark on a journey to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Once you have completed the registration process, you will descend to the Crater Floor where you will enjoy a full day of exciting game drives. During this time, you will be able to observe a variety of wildlife including rhinos, elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, gerenuks, and many more. While you’re there, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy a picnic lunch at the Hippo poolside picnic site.
In addition to the game drives, Ngorongoro Crater is known for its abundant bird life. You can observe flamingos, pelicans, Egyptian geese, and other aquatic species at Lake Makat, which is situated in the middle of the crater floor. Other bird species you may encounter include the hammer kop, Lilac-breasted rollers, weavers, and many more. Later in the afternoon, you will drive up the Crater Rim to Rhino Lodge where you will spend the night. Your lunch box and dinner are included.
Day 2: Ngorongoro – Serengeti.
After enjoying breakfast at your lodge, you will embark on a journey to visit Tanzania’s most renowned national park, the Serengeti National Park. On the way, you will have the opportunity to stop by the Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakey family discovered human fossils, implying that Africa was the origin of mankind. Once you reach the Serengeti, you will witness a diverse range of animals all year round, but it is the Migration herds that leave a lasting impression on many travelers. Besides, you can expect to spot buffaloes, elephants, cheetahs, lions, baboons, zebras, and various bird species. For that authentic ‘of Africa style’ experience, you will spend the night at Thorn Tree Camp, with all meals included.
Day 3: Adventure in Serengeti National Park.
Experience a full day of game drives in the Serengeti plains with a picnic lunch at one of the designated sites. Alternatively, you can opt for an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge/tented camp and some relaxation time before the afternoon drive. The Serengeti National Park is a world-renowned safari destination, famous for its impressive population of lions and leopards.
The Seronera area in the central part of the park is home to a plethora of wildlife, thanks in part to the Seronera River which provides a valuable water source. During the off-season of the migration, keep an eye out for the many lion points of pride that thrive in this region. End your day with a sunset game drive in the plains before retiring to Thorn Tree Camp for the night. All meals are included.
Day 4: Serengeti – Drive back to Arusha
If you’d like, you can start your day with an early morning game drive in Serengeti before making your way back to Arusha. Alternatively, if it’s within your budget, you can catch a flight at 11:05 AM from Seronera Airstrip to Arusha. If you’re heading to Zanzibar for a beach vacation, we can arrange a flight for you out of Serengeti instead of having to endure a long drive back to Arusha.
As with all of our programs, this safari can be customized to include the type of accommodation you prefer, whether it’s budget, middle-class, or luxury safari lodges and tented camps. Our short safaris in Tanzania can also be combined with a beach extension in Zanzibar or with a Kilimanjaro Climb via any route.
